St Mark’s Church

St Mark's Church, Pearse Street

Although St Mark’s Church is no longer part of our parish, it does have a rich historical connection to our community.

St Mark’s Church was built in 1729 on Pearse Street by the Church of Ireland, and was consecrated by the Archbishop of Dublin, Charles Cobbe, on St Mark’s Day – 25th April 1757. Works were carried out to upgrade the building in 1853.

The church was closed by the Church of Ireland in 1971. Its contents were distributed, and the parish records transferred to the Representative Church Body. It was purchased by Trinity College Dublin, and was used occasionally for exams and lectures.

In 1987 the church was purchased by the Family Worship Centre, a Pentecostal church, who renovated and re-opened the church as a place of worship. See their website: stmarks.ie

A number of our current parishioners have personal or family connections to St Mark’s.

The famous Irish author, poet and playwright, Oscar Wilde, was baptised in St Mark’s.
