At the end of our Holy Communion service this morning our select vestry secretary read out the following announcement:
“Today I am filled with gratitude as I share an important milestone in the life of our parish.
After a period of prayerful searching and discernment, the nominators are delighted to announce that Canon Trevor Sargent will become the next rector of this parish. Canon Sargent is currently the rector of the Bunclody Union of parishes. Prior to that he was a curate in Waterford and a deacon in Tullow.
We thank God for calling Canon Sargent to lead our community and we ask God to bless his current ministry.
Canon Sargent will not officially being his ministry with us until December 6th. Over the next period we ask you to keep Canon Sargent in your prayers as he prepares to transition from Bunclody to us.”
Canon Sargent was ordained Deacon in August 2017, and ordained Priest in Christchurch Cathedral Waterford in September 2018.
Prior to this he was a teacher and politician. He served as TD in Dáil Éireann for nearly 20 years for the Dublin North constituency, was the first ever Leader of the Green Party, and Minister of State from 2007 to 2010.
