A new history book for St Ann’s church has been launched called St Ann’s, Dawson Street – The Church in the Heart of the City, written by Stephen Huws and Stuart Kinsella.

The congregation of St Ann’s was delighted to be joined on Thursday 4th June 2026 by a large group of invited guests to mark the release of this new book. The Archbishop of Dublin and Glendalough, the Most Reverend Dr Michael Jackson, officially launched the book – in the presence of Councillor Danny Byrne, representing the Lord Mayor of Dublin.

After the Archbishop spoke to launch the book, we also heard from the two authors:

  • Dr Stephen Huws – who recently completed his PhD in Trinity Collage, based on research of stained glass windows in church across Dublin, including those in St Ann’s. He now works for the University of York.
  • Dr Stuart Kinsella – researcher and archivist for Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, as well as professional tenor soloist, consort singer, and director of music of his own sacred music ensemble Peregryne.

The book is based off research compiled by Stuart Kinsella, with the support of former Rectors of the parish, Revd. Canon David Gillespie and Revd. Canon Paul Arbuthnot.

Special thanks go to Dermott Barrett, church warden, who was the driving force behind making this book happen – and to all those who contributed funds to making this book a possibility.
